LINC Chess and Me

For over 20 years, I have directed chess tournaments for K-12 students, working hand in hand with LINC a local nonprofit organization.  We give 4 tournaments each school year awarding medals and trophies to participants.  There is no entry fee and everyone that comes is provided lunch.  I also teach a 1 week summer annually.

About Me

I am a professional chess teacher that has earned a living teaching chess for the past 30 years after retiring from a 30-year career in the computer field.  What separates me from most chess teachers is that I teach students how to think. Most chess teachers want quick results, which results in a lot of memorization. The way of thinking that I teach applies not only to the chess but also to life. Proper thinking produces chess champions and successful life skills.

Testimonials

Zeb Fortman began coaching our daughter, Stephanie, when she was in the 4th grade. Under his guidance, she transformed from an insecure classroom player into a fierce national competitor with a deep love for the game. Zeb’s mentoring taught her sportsmanship, gave her self-confidence, fostered character development, and showed her how to compete in a boys’ world.
